Dr. Lou Gilles initially began his professional career in Chicago as an Engineer and Product Developer. He spent more than 20 years working in the telecommunications and holds four patents in the field. A job opportunity to help build the T-Mobile network brought him to California in the early 1990’s. Because of a real interest in helping others, he decided to return to Podiatric medical school in 2010.

Dr. Gilles graduated from California School of Podiatric Medicine, in 2015, and currently holds a teaching position at the school, as Director of Learning Strategies. In this position, he teaches integrative learning strategies, professionalism and helps to prepare medical students for the rigors of residency training, and practice.

After graduation, Dr. Gilles helped to build the first-ever residency program at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas. He currently serves as the Assistant Director of that program; training competent foot and ankle surgeons (several of whom have gone on to also serve the North County community).

Dr. Gilles chose Podiatry as his field of practice because of the impact that foot and ankle care has on the quality of life. “I have been a resident of North County since 1997, and this is the most active and happy community I have ever experienced. Being able to contribute to the health of my community is truly an honor. I look forward to meeting you.”

In his free time Dr. Gilles enjoys spending time with wife, three children and life in the wonderful community of North County San Diego.
